Find the right kids’ wallpaper
There’s a plethora of stylish children’s wallpaper to choose from, which you can’t really go wrong with. Just remember to embrace your inner child. We’ve listed a few things to consider when choosing children’s wallpaper.
Let your creativity flow
The kids' room is perhaps the most fun room to decorate in the whole home. It's where you can really let your creativity flow to create an inviting, personal space for your child—a place for dreams and bedtime stories, as well as play and games.
How do you think long-term?
Thinking long-term is usually the rule of thumb when it comes to wallpaper. When it comes to children's wallpaper however, many parents reconcile with the idea of at least two to three, or more wallpaper changes in their child's room, as the child grows up and their personality and taste develops.
A safe bet is nature-inspired and small floral patterns in matte pastels, as they usually last a long time. It's a good idea to invest in durable furniture and storage that will stand the test of time, and to use the rest of the decor when you want to spruce up the room’s impression.
The accent wall—a flexible solution
If you want to avoid a major decoration project, but at the same time want to retain the flexibility to change the impression of your children's room quickly and easily, the accent wall is an excellent solution. Create a cosy focal point with an atmospheric accent wall behind the bed, or make a dedicated play corner. Combine either with a neutral colour on remaining walls, or dare to colour match. If the motif on your wallpaper comes in different shades of green and blue, pick it up with green or blue on the remaining walls and/or with other design elements, such as a chair or cushions.
Choose children’s wallpaper according to the room’s function
Are you decorating a bedroom, a playroom, or perhaps a place for both rest and play? In the playroom, you can go all out with colour, pattern and motifs, such as jungle animals, bold letters and world maps to inspire playing, creativity and perhaps homework.
Choose calmer patterns and colours to create a cosy and safe bedroom environment. Cute fairy tale characters, pastel clouds and star-studded skies contribute to a peaceful atmosphere and magical dreams.
Let your child have a say
Children and adults have different tastes. Dark colours, for example, are both elegant and practical, but not guaranteed to be the best choice for a child's room. A child's room should convey joy and positivity, so most people pick bright and colourful wallpaper, partly because colour also helps to stimulate children's brains.
If your child is old enough, let him or her have a say in the matter. What colours and patterns does he or she like best? A good tip is to pick a theme and run with it to create a consistent mood. (Preferably something they won’t grow tired of too quickly.) Remember, storage is your best friend for keeping the room organized and freeing up floor and play space.
An immersive mural, or a striking photo wallpaper will make the room more personal and create your child's favourite atmosphere. They're an easy way to transform your child's room into a place they'll never want to leave. (Until they become teenagers, that is.)
